Zain is always keen to provide the best and latest technology in the field of communications to its customers, and the electronic chip technology (eSIM) is one of the latest ones, being the digital or electronic version of the regular SIM chip, which give the subscriber more safety and easily to switch between personal numbers and work numbers
What is the electronic SIM card (eSIM)?
- It is an electronic chip that is different from the regular plastic SIM as it’s intangible and performs all the functions of the traditional plastic SIM. The subscriber can add more than one number to a single device SIM and switch directly between them, where it’s activated by scanning the QR code
From where can I get the eSIM?
- It is available at all Zain main sales centers and in all regions of Iraq
What is required if I want to replace the eSIM with a regular plastic SIM or vice versa?
- You can visit our main sales centers and replace/change the chip from eSIM to a regular one and vice versa. The required documents are Civil ID, National card, Residence card or Passport
How do I know if the device is compatible with eSIM?
- Make sure that there is an EID number. For iPhone device it’s by accessing "settings", then "general" and then "about" or by having an EID number on the original box of the device, while for Samsung device it is by going to settings and choosing "about device"
Generally, the devices are made of several versions with different specifications, so please check the device specifications whether it supports eSIM service or not, below is a list of the most mobiles used eSIM types of mobile devices available in the market:

Can I change my mobile and transfer the eSIM number to the new device?
- Mobile can be changed but you must visit Zain's main centers to get a new QR for the same number, as the eSIM can be activated on one mobile device only
And then activate the eSIM number by scanning the QR for the number and by following the activation steps in the new device
How to get the eSIM QR code if it is lost?
- You can visit our main centers in Baghdad, and you will be provided with a new QR code for your number
In case a "factory reset" is done to the device, will the settings of eSIM be cleared as well?
- There are several options for factory reset, if the SIM settings are approved to be removed with your mobile, the SIM will be unlinked to the mobile and you must scan the QR in order to add it again on the same mobile. If the SIM settings are kept, the SIM is not affected by the factory reset.
Is it possible to use two eSIMs?
- Several electronic SIMs can be added to the device, but only one eSIM and one regular SIM can be used at the same time.
How much eSIMs can the subscriber use on his or her device?
- The subscriber can store more than one eSIM on his device and some devices support the use of more than one eSIM at the same time and some devices support the use of one eSIM, but you can use only one at a time and the subscriber can switch between them
Do regular and roaming services work on the eSIM?
- When purchasing a new eSIM chip or if the regular SIM is replaced to eSIM, all current local or roaming services will operate at the same prices
Does a dual SIM device support eSIM?
- In general, any dual SIM device does not support eSIM technology
Does the eSIM chip work on the Apple Watch?
- It does not work at the moment, as mobile device manufacturers do not currently support this technology in Iraq.
