Baghdad, Iraq | July 2025: Zain Iraq reaffirms its commitment to supporting and empowering young Iraqi women and enhancing their participation in the digital economy with the launch of the fifth edition of its annual “Women in Tech” program, an inspiring initiative that aims to amplify the role of women in the digital sector.
The program is designed to support female students and recent graduates in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by developing their technical and professional skills, enabling them to enter the business market with confidence and contribute to building a more inclusive and innovative digital future.
This year, the program will be held in three Iraqi governorates—Baghdad, Basra, and Erbil—with the participation of 300 girls, including students and recent graduates. It will run over a three-month period through an intensive training program delivered in collaboration with Makers of Baghdad, Computiq, Titanium Training Center, and Five One Labs.
The training focuses on equipping participants with advanced digital skills, including web development, programming, and the use of modern digital tools, enabling them to compete in today’s fast-paced tech-driven business market. By providing equal learning opportunities and clear career paths, the program aims to increase women’s representation in the digital and telecom industries, encouraging them to engage in this sector and equipping them with the skills and tools needed for innovation and success in their professional journey.
The program also includes mentorship sessions, hands-on technical training, and career development tracks designed to boost employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for participants, while fostering an encouraging environment that builds self-confidence and leadership potential.
Through this initiative, Zain Iraq seeks to develop a digital generation of young women capable of driving meaningful societal change by launching impactful tech projects and building partnerships with universities and the private sector to create real training and employment opportunities. The overarching goal is to contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem in Iraq.
Emre Gurkan, CEO of Zain Iraq, stated:
“The ‘Women in Tech’ program is one of Zain’s flagship initiatives and reflects our deep commitment to the principles of inclusion and innovation. The program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and supports women's empowerment and digital transformation in Iraq. We believe that empowering women in the tech sector is not only a social responsibility, but a strategic necessity to foster innovation and build a more inclusive and just digital future. Through this program, we aim to unlock the potential of young Iraqi women and prepare them to drive positive change in their communities.”
The program, which has achieved notable success in its previous editions, underscores the importance of strengthening female participation in tech-related fields and empowering the younger generation, particularly young women, to make a real impact in their communities. This reflects Zain Iraq’s commitment to achieving sustainable, positive change that extends beyond the telecom sector.
