Basra, Iraq –January 2023:

Zain, a leading mobile telecom innovator in seven markets across the Middle East and Africa, will be the main sponsor of the 25th Arab Gulf Cup, entitled “Khaleeji Zain 25,” which will be held in Basra governorate, Iraq between 6 and 19 January 2023.

Welcoming the teams and delegations participating in the tournament from neighboring Gulf countries, Zain Iraq announced the launch of its “Eldenya Basra” campaign, which seeks to emphasize the importance of this event and highlight the joint efforts undertaken to maximize youth empowerment, sports development, and the long-awaited return of competitive regional tournaments to stadiums in Iraq.

As part of its “Eldenya Basra” special campaign for “Khaleeji Zain 25” running on social media platforms and media channels, Zain released a special song performed by Mahmoud El Turki to reflect Basra’s cultural background and historic links to the Gulf countries.

Under Communications and Media Commission supervision, Zain Iraq has announced its readiness and completion of all technical preparations to receive the large number of guests who are expected to attend the stadiums. The preparations came by developing a communications network plan for Khaleeji Zain 25 and using special solutions for football stadiums by adding many mobile towers throughout Basra governorate to provide the best level of communications and Internet services in support of this important event.

The Arab Gulf Cup was last hosted in Iraq in 1979 when the country won the title, and today, 44 years later, the tournament returns. The tournament is held once every two years by one of the countries listed in the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation which includes Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Yemen. Sponsored by Zain, the “Khaleeji Zain 25” is organized and supervised by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation in Basra.
