Baghdad – November 30, 2022

Zain Iraq has announced that the cabinet resolution, which was implemented by the honorable Council of Ministers on 11/22/2022, to cancel the 20% sales tax imposed on all recharge cards and electronic recharge vouchers for prepaid and postpaid subscribers will become effective starting Thursday, December 1, 2022.

The following announcement came in a press conference held by Zain Iraq at its headquarters in Baghdad, during which it has confirmed that the 20% sales will be canceled starting December 1st (1/12/2022) at midnight. From this date onwards, subscribers will be able to purchase recharge cards without the 20% sales tax, which will be available on the market across the country.

Ali Al-Zahid, CEO of Zain Iraq, said: "At Zain, subscribers are always at the center of everything we do, and providing them with the best experience is our top priority; hence, the decision to cancel the tax is anticipated to evidently have a positive impact on all subscribers." He added: "This decision serves as an important reminder that we are headed in the right direction in terms of developing services for citizens, and we have, matter-of-factly, demanded and strived for it ever since this tax was declared in 2015 under the national budget laws.”

Zain Iraq also confirmed that all its distributors and points of sale must comply with the sales tax cancellation resolution and adopt the new prices for recharge cards and electronic vouchers, and the necessity to abide by the decision issued by the regulatory authorities and applying it from the aforementioned date.

Zain highly appreciates the efforts of Council of Ministers, CMC, Ministry of Communications, and all related parties that contributed to the tax cancelation decision with the aim of easing economic burden on citizens.
