With love and peace, we restore the leading position of Iraq.
Believing in the youthful energy of Iraq and its role in restoring the leading position of Iraq, especially in the field of athletics, Zain Iraq, a company in the Zain Group and a leading player in communication and mobile data services in the Middle East and North Africa, co-sponsored the First International Baghdad Marathon. The Marathon hosted runners from different Arab countries, and they all ran under the strapline ‘Love and Peace’. The launch of the Baghdad Marathon put Iraq back on the world athletics map.
More than 2,500 Iraqi and Arab competitors from various Arab countries competed in three categories: 4 kilometers for men, women, the elderly, young men and women, and school children; 10 kilometers for athletes; and 2 kilometers for all categories participating in the People’s Run. The Marathon, which was organized by the Iraqi Athletics Federation in coordination with the Iraqi Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, took place on the Baghdad International Airport Road. Before the start of the official race, the Marathon witnessed an outstanding display in which more than 50 motorbikes took part. At the end of the Marathon, medals bearing the insignia of Zain Iraq were presented to the winners in all categories of the Marathon.
In its communiqué Zain Iraq stressed that its contribution to sponsoring the First International Baghdad Marathon was in harmony with the company’s strategy and firm commitment at the national level to support all activities that contribute to restoring and strengthening the leading role of Iraq in all fields. We believe in the importance of athletics and its role in the life of young people. It is the language of love and peace and we long for it to prevail in all parts of Iraq.
Zain Iraq considers the Marathon as a new achievement for Iraqis and an opportunity for them to share with the world their faith in life and in a culture of development and passionate ambition to improve. It believes that future development in Iraq and the region will be led by young people, and it is reaching out the hand of partnership and cooperation in order to achieve it.
