“Afkar” Innovation Competition

In line with its ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and promoting sustainability, Zain Iraq launched the annual edition of the "Afkar" competition – a digital platform designed to inspire creative minds to develop innovative solutions that address societal challenges.

This year’s edition focused on environmental protection, encouraging participants to submit technological and practical ideas that could make a real difference in preserving the environment and conserving resources.

Out of 190 submissions, 10 ideas were shortlisted for the semi-finals, with 5 advancing to the final round. Three winning ideas stood out for their strong relevance to sustainability and received cash prizes in recognition of their creativity, effort, and contribution. The competition was supported by the National Bank of Iraq.

• Green Oil: A project that transforms food waste into rich organic compost to support sustainable agriculture.
• Reusing Polluted Construction Environments: A project aimed at recycling construction waste into affordable raw materials.
• Tire-to-Fuel Conversion: Creating a sustainable energy source for heavy industries.

Through the Afkar competition, Zain continues to empower individuals to make a positive environmental impact, while highlighting practical and scalable solutions that contribute to building a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
