Zain Iraq signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Science and Technology


In line with its commitment to enhancing the IT sector and digital transformation as per the global standards, Zain Iraq, part of Zain group - a leading telecom innovator in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) – signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Science and Technology. The agreement will provide digital solutions and modern applications to the Iraqis, supporting the ongoing government efforts to offer electronic services and solutions that will impact the Iraqis lifestyle.

“This MoU is a starting point to launch awareness and educational programs that aim at improving the living standards for Iraqi people, especially children, answering their needs,” said Ali Al-Zahid, Zain Iraq CEO. “The mandate of UNICEF is to protect children from negative social practices, support them and their families to raise their educational level being a major factor in the progress of any country, especially Iraq. Supporting childhood have proven to be key pillar in building societies,” he added.

Through this MoU, Zain and the IT Department in the Ministry of Science and Technology aim at improving the scientific and technical cooperation using IT applications to develop the electronic systems, which serves the governmental institutions and are in direct contact with the different community segments.

“This MoU is the starting point to launch many IT and digital programs that will positively impact the Iraqis answering their needs," said Ali Al-Zahid, Zain Iraq CEO. “The cooperation between the public and private sectors is necessary to keep up with the technology revolution and move towards digital transformation in many sectors, especially in science”, he added.

“This agreement with Zain Iraq marks the start of a long-term government plan to support the technical development of Iraq. A plan that will provide digital solutions, electronic applications and services supporting E-transformation and automation”, said Dr. Fouad Kazem al-Moussawi, technical expert at the Ministry of Science and Technology. “Business automation and smart apps will contribute mainly to offer community services, as the team members of the IT department in the ministry will develop applications and software that support the process of digital transformation in government institutions”, he added.

The MoU includes consulting services, scientific and technical support, training and development for the Ministry senior officials offered by Zain Iraq on IT and its applications. It will also include building joint teams, organizing training sessions and workshops to develop a strategic vision, work mechanisms and future projects requirements. The agreement also covers advanced programming languages, electronic applications and smart systems that support government authorities and all community segments.
